Publicity is the most cost-effective marketing
tool.
Generally a Press Release is written in the following format:
- Release Time: ie Immediate Release
- Headline: Title of your News Story
- Subheading / Summary: 2-4 sentence summary
- Dateline: Date when the news is being issued and the town of the company launching the Press Release.
- Opening Paragraph: Answer - Who?, What?, When?, Where? and Why?
- Press Release Body: Details of background information, statistics etc.
- Boilerplate: About information regarding the issuing company.
- Call to Action: Complete contact details & web address
How to write a press release for your website launch
- Write for the Media. Journalists
will use your press release as a springboard for a larger feature
story.
- A good press release answers: who, what, where, when and why. It provides the media with
useful information about your organization, product, service or event.
- Not everything is news. The media does NOT want to write about just another new website. Focus on the
features of your new website that truly set your company ahead of the market.
- Make sure you identify a
problem and why your solution is the right one. Use real life examples to
powerfully communicate the benefits of using your product or service.
- Make sure
that your story has a good news hook. Tie
your news to current events or social issues.
- Your headline and first paragraph should tell
the story. The rest of your press release should provide the detail.
- Use active voice. Avoid unnecessary adjectives. Keep it concise. Make each word count.
- If you must use an exclamation point, use ONLY one!
- Ensure you have written permission before including
information or quotes from employees or other companies.
- End with
a short paragraph (company boilerplate) that describes your company,
products, service and a short company history.
